Find out more about how to change the images or icons displayed on the desktop as folder icons in Windows.

Customize folder images in Windows using folder options

To change a folder image, you must first access the respective folder via Windows Explorer.

  • Then right-click on the folder and select “Properties”. This will take you to the respective folder options.
  • A new window will open. Click on the “Customize” button.
  • In the “Folder Pictures” section, you can now click on the “Select file…” button to set up your desired photo as a folder picture.
  • Confirm your new settings by clicking on “Apply” and “OK” so that you can view your new folder image.
  • Instead of an image, you can also choose one of the Windows default icons. To do this, select “Other icon” in the “Folder icons” section in the bottom third of the window. Here you can choose from a list of many different icons.
