Whether your PC is compatible with Windows 12 becomes an important question with the upcoming upgrade. These are the expected system requirements
Compatible with Windows 12: What info is known?
The compatibility of the home computer with Windows 12 will become relevant at the latest when Microsoft releases the upgrade to the new operating system. Those who plan ahead and want to stay up to date should start thinking about their hardware now.
- Since Windows 11 has not been on the market for too long and its successor, codenamed “Next Valley”, is still in the development phase, there is currently no official information from Microsoft on the system requirements.
- It is certain that Windows 12 will also need a TPM chip for operation. The hardware component performs security functions such as encryption, key management, certificate storage and platform integrity checks.
- Microsoft has not yet commented on the minimum requirements for the smooth operation of Windows 12, although some innovations are to be expected. However, it can be assumed that similar system requirements will be set on the hardware side as for the predecessor.
- This means that anyone currently using a PC that cannot run Windows 11 will most likely not be able to upgrade to Windows 12 either.
Windows 12 compatible: Additional system requirements
The following details have not been officially confirmed by Microsoft and are still being treated as rumours, but they certainly provide a rough overview of the possible system requirements:
- Processor: Two or more processor cores with at least 1GHz (8th generation Intel CPU or suitable AMD counterpart)
- Memory: 4GB (could also be increased to 8GB to ensure smooth operation of cloud services and new AI features)
- Hard disk storage: 128GB or more, SSD could become mandatory
- System firmware: UEFI with secure boot function
- Graphics card: WDDM 2.0 driver, compatible with DirectX 12
- Screen: Display with at least 720p and a screen diagonal of more than 9 inches
- Windows version for upgrade to Windows 12: Windows 10 (version 2004) or later
