If you want to have more space on your desktop, you can reduce the size of the taskbar in Windows 10. This is particularly worthwhile for small screens.
Shrink the taskbar: Here’s how to do it under Windows 10
Compared to Windows Vista and Windows 7, the taskbar in Windows 10 is relatively large. Especially on older devices that still work with a low screen resolution, it takes up a lot of space. Therefore, you can noticeably reduce the size of the taskbar via the Settings app in Windows 10.
- To do this, open the settings with the key combination [Windows] + [i].
- In the new window, click on the “Personalisation” button.
- Select the entry “Taskbar” in the left column.
- Lastly, activate the option “Use small taskbar buttons”. The changes are immediately applied and visible.
Alternatively: Reduce the size of all Windows elements
If not only the taskbar is too big for you, but also the window borders and menus in Windows 10, you can alternatively reduce the size of the entire display.
- To do this, open the Settings app with the key combination [Windows] + [i].
- Select the category “System” and click on “Screen” on the left.
- Set the value under “Scaling and Arrangement” to a lower number. For most monitors, “100%” is best.
