To make settings on Windows, you must open the Control Panel. There are differences in the individual Windows versions. We show you where to find the control panel in Windows 7, 8 and 10.

Note: If you open the “Settings” in the Start menu, you will also find some important functions here that are no longer placed in the Control Panel since Windows 10.

  • Click on the Windows icon at the bottom left so that the Start menu opens.
  • Now simply enter the term “Control Panel” on your keyboard.
  • The search result then appears and can be selected at the top.

Instruction for Windows 8: Open Control Panel

In Windows 8, there is not only the classic control panel, but also a sorted control panel oriented towards Windows 8. For the traditional control panel, proceed as follows:

  • Press the Windows key on your keyboard to get to the start screen.
  • Now type in “System”: a search bar will open with “Control Panel” as the first result.
  • Select this, the Control Panel will open and you can configure your PC.

Windows 7 and Vista: How to start the Control Panel

Even in the older versions of Windows, you can open the Control Panel with a few clicks.

  • Click on the Windows-Button at the bottom right of the screen to open the Start menu.
  • On the right side you will see the menu item “Control Panel”. Click on it.
  • The Control Panel will now open.

Windows 7 Support set: Switch quickly now

By the way, there have been no new features or bug fixes in Windows 7 since 13 January 2015. There have also been no security updates since the beginning of 2020. However, anyone who still owns Windows 7 can switch to Windows 10 for free.

  • Click on the “Start” button at the bottom right of the screen.
  • On the right side, you will see the “Control Panel” in the approximate centre.
  • Now the control panel opens.
