Windows 10: Hide taskbar icons – this is how it works

by Flo

If there are too many icons in the taskbar in Windows 10, you can simply hide them. Our instructions will help you and show you the individual steps.

Hide unnecessary taskbar icons via the Settings app

In Windows 10, you can individually set which programmes get a place in your taskbar. This is a bit more cumbersome than in Windows 8, but still done in a few steps:

  • On your desktop, click on the “Windows” icon at the bottom left and then on “Settings”.
  • Open “Personalisation” and then select “Taskbar” on the right.
  • Scroll down until you find the subcategory “notification area”.
  • There you will find “Select icons to display on the taskbar” and “Enable or disable system icons”.
  • Select the entries there for the programmes you want to hide from your taskbar and then close the window.
  • Now the icon no longer appears in the taskbar.
