Where screenshots are stored is an important question if you take screenshots that are important to you. Depending on the device, these are different locations.
Where screenshots are stored: devices and folders
When you take a screenshot, the storage location can vary. Depending on the device, there are different folders that contain your screenshots. If you take a screenshot, you can usually choose the storage location. If this is not the case, the images can be found in other locations:
- Windows: If you use the keyboard shortcut “Windows+PrtScn” or another keyboard shortcut for the screenshot, you will find your images afterwards in the folder “C:\Users\\Pictures\Screenshots”. Depending on the computer system and device, you can also find the screenshots in the folder “C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Temp”.
- If you cannot find the screenshot, enter the name “Screenshot” in the search line for the documents. These will then be displayed.
- Mac: On most Mac computers, your screenshots are saved on the desktop as “Screenshot [date] at [time].png”. With macOS Mojave, you can set the folder yourself in the “Options” of the Screenshots app.
- Android: The screenshots on your Android device end up in the Photos app or the gallery. You have immediate access to the file and can send or edit it.
- iPad/ iPhone: On the iPad or iPhone, you will find your screenshots in the Photos app. All screenshots you take will end up here.
- External programs: If you take screenshots with an external program such as Lightshot, you will be asked where you would like to save the screenshot. You can select where you would like to save the screenshots here.
