With your Windows Phone, you can set up a Wi-Fi hotspot. This allows you to give devices without a mobile internet connection, such as tablets or notebooks, access to the internet. The hotspot is quickly set up and ready to use.
Windows Phone: Setting up a Wi-Fi hotspot
In just a few steps, you can set up your hotspot on your Windows Phone and connect it to other devices to start surfing.
- Open the Settings app on your smartphone.
- Select “Internet Sharing”.
- Turn on sharing by activating the only available switch.
- Now your hotspot can theoretically already be used, because it was set up with default settings. To define the name and password of the hotspot yourself, you can tap “Set up” below.
- The corresponding symbol in the status bar at the top indicates that your hotspot is active.
Open the mobile hotspot via quick settings
If you want to use your phone as a hotspot, you can connect other devices to it. The Wi-Fi hotspot can then be conveniently used for phones without mobile data, for tablets or even for PCs. Therefore, you should definitely protect your Windows phone from unauthorized connections.
- Click on “Set up” to rename your hotspot and set a secure password. If you use the hotspot regularly, you should also change the password regularly.
- Once your hotspot is selected, you can check who is connected to your smartphone. You can and should remove unknown devices from your network immediately.
- Under “Set up”, you also have the option to adjust the bandwidth. This way, you can prevent your guests or devices from using up all of your mobile data.
