If you no longer have access to the ‘My Pictures’ folder in Windows, you will need to obtain the appropriate access rights.

My Pictures folder: Display and change permissions

To change the permissions in Windows, you must be logged in as an administrator. If you are, you can proceed with the next steps:

  • Right-click on the “My Pictures” folder and click on “Properties” in the context menu.
  • Click on “Security” in the tab.
  • Under “Group or user names”, now click on your name to see which permissions you have.
  • Now click on “Edit” and a window will open with the name “Permissions for ‘My Pictures’”. Click on your name and set the checkmarks to “Allow”. To view files, you need read permissions. However, full access is recommended for “my files”.
  • Close all windows by clicking on “OK”. You should now be able to see and edit your photos, images and files again.
