MS Paint: Making the background transparent – this is how to do it

by Pramith

In MS Paint you can carry out the simplest image editing. With the transparent selection you can remove the background of an element. We show you how to do this.

Make background transparent in Paint

Ahead: With MS Paint you can only do the simplest image editing. If you want to crop an object in a photo, you should turn to programmes such as Photoshop, Gimp or Paint.NET. With MS Paint you can only copy simple elements without a background:

– Open Paint and, for example with the shape tool, draw any shape in the empty field.

– In the menu area “Image” click on the arrow under “Selection” and activate the option “Transparent Selection”.

– Drag a box around the shape, select it and copy it with [Ctrl] + [C].

– Now open another Paint image. Here you can paste the object you just selected by pressing [Ctrl] + [V]. The background remains transparent.
