How to rename a Microsoft account

by Michaela

If you no longer like the address of your Microsoft account, you can rename your account. In just a few steps, your account will have a new name.

Microsoft account: How to rename it

You can change your name in the settings of your Microsoft account.

  • First, log in to your Microsoft account via your browser. To do this, you will need both your email address and your password.

  • Alternatively, you can also log in via Microsoft Office if you use one of the programs. Open Word, PowerPoint, Excel or another MS Office program. Your profile with your name will appear in the upper right corner. Click on your name and then on “My Microsoft Account”.

  • Use the menu on the left to click on your profile with your name or on the “Your information” tab. In the first window, you will now see your name and photo, if you have added one. Next to it is the “Edit name” button.

  • Click on “Edit name”. You can now change your first name and last name. After entering a captcha, you can save your new name.

  • You will return to the overview and your new name will now be displayed.
