If the TV no longer finds any channels, this can have various reasons. We show you the most common causes and their solutions.
Television can’t find channels – here’s what you can do
If your TV no longer finds channels, several causes may be responsible. These tips usually solve the problems:
- First check the antenna cable: Is it connected correctly and undamaged? Is it in the correct socket? If necessary, replace the cable with a new antenna cable to make sure it is not defective.
- Perform a manual channel search on your television. To do this, use the arrow keys on your remote control to search the different frequency ranges.
- If you are using a satellite receiver, make sure it is properly connected and set up. Also, the satellite dish must be correctly aligned so that you can receive channels. Check that there is error-free data transmission by replacing the connection cable with another one.
- If you are still having problems with reception via cable, contact your landlord or caretaker, as there may be a defect in the socket.
- You can also try to reset the TV and other devices such as your receiver to the factory settings. However, all settings will be lost. You can find this option in the settings of your devices.
Specific tips: DVB-T, cable, satellite and pay-TV
Depending on the type of reception you use, different solutions may be useful.
- DVB-T: Move your antenna to another location or change its orientation, as the defect is often due to the strength of the signal from your device in the house, on the balcony or on the roof. If none of this helps, get an indoor antenna with an amplifier.
- Cables: Take a look at your socket, because there may be something wrong with the cables or your provider may have made a mistake in the configuration. If this is the case, contact your provider and have a check carried out.
- Satellite:Align your satellite dish accurately to receive the signal properly. If everything is correct here, check that everything is in order with your transmission cable and the connection of the reception device.
- Sky/Pay-TV: First check whether you have inserted your Smartcard correctly into the set. If you do not find an error, it may be that your preferred channel is not unlocked. To fix this, contact your provider.
- TV-Box/Apple TV: First, make sure that there is no defect in the cable by testing another cable for data transmission. Then check the Internet connection in the settings and reconnect your TV box to your W-LAN if necessary. Make sure that your Internet connection is available. If everything so far works, contact the support of your TV box, as there may be a defect or the box may not have been activated yet.
