If your TV does not transmit sound via the HDMI cable, the cause is usually incorrect settings, only rarely is the cable defective. We will show you what problems can arise and how to solve them.
No sound on the TV via HDMI: Solve problem via settings
If the HDMI cable transmits the picture but not the sound, the first thing you should do is take a look at the audio settings of your TV.
- Every TV is set up differently. First open the menu with the remote control and select the settings there and then the Audio, Sound, Inputs, HDMI or similar sections.
- Look here to see if you can find appropriate settings that relate to the HDMI connection. If you have a choice of formats, always select the default format or try your way through if in doubt.
You can also do this
If you did not find what you were looking for in the settings, the following approaches may help:
Check if the HDMI channel is specified correctly. Normally, when you connect an external device via HDMI, your TV automatically sets the appropriate channel. If this is not the case, use the remote control to manually select the correct HDMI input.
- You can also perform the same procedure on the connected device. If there are several cables connected here that can transmit picture and sound, the connected device may transmit the sound via another cable.
- Test your HDMI cable. The easiest way to do this is to connect another cable and then check whether sound is transmitted here. Cable breaks are often to blame for faulty transmission. It’s best not to store cables too tightly coiled.
- If all this still doesn’t help, also check that the volume of the TV and that of the connected device are not too low or completely turned off.
- Test the speakers as well. Check whether sound is being played at all, for example via the TV channel.
- If none of this helps, you can disconnect both units completely from the power supply for a short time and restart them. Resetting to the factory settings should not be necessary with this error pattern.
