If half the screen on your Samsung TV is dark, it may be a software or hardware problem
Half screen dark on Samsung TV: Software solutions
If one half of your Samsung TV screen suddenly goes dark, it may be a display error. The following methods can help to fix this:
- It may help to switch off the TV and check the HDMI cable. Remove it and check for any kinks or damage. Alternatively, replace it with a new one
- Then reconnect it and switch the TV on. The problem may now be fixed. You can also try another HDMI port on the Samsung TV
- It may help if you press and hold the Home button until the TV automatically performs a soft reset. This usually corrects display errors
- You can also switch off the TV and disconnect it from the power supply for 30 seconds. This is another soft reset variant.
- Finally, you can use the built-in image test. You can find this in the settings on the home screen via Support by selecting Device maintenance.
- Village you will find the self-diagnosis option. Select this and then select the image test to resolve the problem.
Half screen dark on Samsung TV: Component error
It is also possible that your Samsung TV is damaged and for this reason one half of the screen is dark.
- This is usually a problem with the backlight. If you can still see the picture in the darkened part, a backlight problem can be assumed.
- In theory, you could replace the backlight yourself or have it repaired. This is no longer really worthwhile, especially with older models.
- Failed LEDs or OLEDs in the screen due to damage are also possible. Here, too, only a repair can help, but this can be very costly.
