Sky Go runs with difficulty on the Amazon Fire TV Stick. The path to it is not exactly short and somewhat uncertain. But with a bit of patience and luck, you can get it working. We show you two ways to watch Sky content on your Fire TV Stick.
Instructions: Watch Sky Go on the Amazon Fire TV Stick
Unfortunately, an official Sky Go app for the Fire TV Stick is still a long time coming. There is a workaround on the web that can bring Sky Go to the streaming device quite legally. The setup takes a few minutes, but is only necessary once. Although the diversions did not work in our own tests, we do not want to deprive you of the way. Below the instructions you will find a way that is guaranteed to work, but may be a little more expensive.
- On the Fire TV Stick, go to “Settings” at the top of the menu bar and select “Developer Options” under “My Fire TV”. Switch on the option “ADB debugging” and “Apps of unknown origin” here.
- Now install the free downloader on the device. To do this, open the link, for example, and initiate the installation on your Fire TV Stick. You will now find the application in the “Apps” section. Alternatively, you can also find and install the app directly using the search function.
- Start the app, confirm with “OK” and enter the following URL in the address line: http://bit.ly/2DFCvHE. Click the “Go” button to download the free Kodi software. If a warning appears from Bit.ly, you can still start the download via the link on the loaded page.
- Tip: You can use the Fire TV app for your smartphone to make it easier to use the keyboard.
- Close the app and now download ES File Explorer. Open the app, select the “Favourites” category on the left, and then the “New” option at the bottom.
- In the Path area, now enter the following URL: http://aftvhacks.de/fire-tv-downloads. Confirm with “Next” and “OK”. The aforementioned website opens, where you select “Kodinerds” in the “Kodi Repositories, Add-ons & Modules” section. Another download starts.
- Go back to the main menu of the Fire TV and open the “Kodi” app. You can find this, for example, via the search. In the Kodi menu on the left, select the category “Add-Ons”.
- The downloaded Kodinerds file is located here. Selecting the file will start the installation. Then select the option “Install from repository”. In the section “kodinerds.net Add-ons” you will find the “Video Add-ons”.
- Open the option “Install from ZIP-file” at the top, confirm with “Settings” and activate the option “Unknown sources”. Go back to “Install from ZIP-file” and select the folder “external storage” and then “Downloads”.
- You can now choose from numerous services such as Sky Go and Sky Ticket. Select the desired service, click “Install” and confirm with “OK”. Select the service again and you can log in with your Sky account via the “Configure” option.
- You can then start the Sky Go or Sky Ticket app by clicking “Open”. Simply select the Sky channel you want and it will start playing on your Fire TV Stick.
Bring Sky Go and Sky Ticket (WOW) to your Fire TV Stick
Should the above instructions not work for you, or do you have a WOW (formerly: Sky Ticket) account? Then there is a reliable and easy way.
- If you use WOW, you can find the application directly via the search in your Amazon Fire TV Stick. Often the app is already suggested and you don’t have to search for it. Download the app and log in with your access data.
- Do you only use Sky Q and therefore Sky Go on the move? Then it may be worthwhile to add the Sky streaming service WOW, or even to rely only on it. Depending on the package, it costs between around 7 and 25 euros (as of 02/2023) and almost the entire Sky range is available.
