“Harry & Meghan”: Netflix doc aims to change view
On 08 December 2022, the time had come – the long-awaited documentary “Harry & Meghan” was released on the streaming platform Netflix – or rather, the first part of it. Even before its release, the documentary was making waves, which could bring explosive things to light.
- The British royal family is not the only one who has been eagerly awaiting the documentary. Among other things, the question is whether Harry and Meghan will finally break with their aristocratic family.
- The two will definitely not go on a cuddly course – even if the trailer for the documentary starts off tame. You can see harmonious and loving moments between Harry and Meghan – with an umbrella, a dog or a baby bump.
- But in the middle of the teaser there is a cut, the mood tips, more serious tones are struck. “No one sees what goes on behind closed doors,” Harry says, while a crying Meghan can be seen. And, “I had to protect my family,” Harry sternly states.
- Another trailer talks about “leaks and fabricated stories” in the British royal family and that “war has been waged against Meghan”. These statements make it clear that the British royal family does not come off well in the documentary.
Unforgotten and unforgiven: Diana’s death stands between Harry and royals
The two trailers have already made it clear that there is a lot of emotion in the documentary “Harry & Meghan”, including anger and the sheer will to finally expose all that the couple believe has been done to them.
- So Prince Harry announces in the second trailer, “Nobody knows the whole truth. We know it.” Again, this truth is from Harry and Meghan’s subjective point of view. So it is a one-sided truth. A truth that could shake the thick palace walls.
- So it’s also clear in the second trailer that Harry and Meghan feel persecuted, that the prince fears for the safety of his family and fears history could repeat itself.
- There is talk of pain for the women who marry into this institution. Thus it should be clear that Diana, Harry’s mother, will also be a subject of the documentary. Princess Diana died in Paris in 1997 during a chase with paparazzi.
- The trailer shows footage of Meghan and Diana both being chased by hordes of paparazzi. In the process, Harry can be heard saying: “It’s a dirty game.” According to Focus.de, it is no secret that Harry had to undergo psychological treatment after the death of his mother. And also that his relationship with his father, King Charles III, has suffered as a result of years of cheating on Diana and his handling of her death.\
- Part 2 of the documentary will follow on 15 December. Then the public and royal family will know if Harry and Meghan are indeed breaking with their royal kin. “When there’s so much at stake, doesn’t it make more sense to hear our version?” asks Meghan at the end of the first trailer. That’s a question every viewer can now answer for themselves.
