Davy Jones – that’s his story in Pirates of the Caribbean

In the second part of the popular Pirates of the Caribbean film series, Davy Jones plays an important role. He is the captain of the Flying Dutchman and also known as the Lord of the Seven Seas. But his appearance is striking: as a sea monster, he roams the seas, always looking for new crew members for his crew.

  • Even as a human, Davy Jones was a successful captain. One day, he fell in love with the pagan sea goddess Calypso, who commissioned him to find dead souls at sea and bring them safely to the other side.
  • There is just one snag: Davy Jones is only allowed to set foot on land every ten years. Only then is he permitted to see his great love again.
  • The captain of the Flying Dutchman sticks to the plan. But the fickle goddess Calypso does not keep her promise, so Davy Jones has to wait in vain.
  • Davy Jones is not only disappointed, but also very angry. He removes the heart from his body and locks it in a chest, because he wants to protect himself from love. He also allies himself with the first council of the Brethren Court. The Brethren Court succeeds in imprisoning the Sea Goddess in a human body, so that she must walk the earth in this form forever.
  • Although Calypso is banned, Davy Jones and his crew remain cursed. As sea monsters on the loose, they are looking for more crew members to work for 100 years aboard the Flying Dutchman. This way, as Davy Jones repeatedly emphasizes, they will avoid “doomsday” and thus death.

This is the role played by Davy Jones in Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest

One of the main characters in Pirates of the Caribbean is Jack Sparrow. Long ago, he made a pact with Davy Jones and was allowed to call himself captain of the Black Pearl for 13 years. At some point, however, Sparrow must pay his debt and join the crew of the Flying Dutchman. However, Jack tries to circumvent this plan.

  • Davy Jones has hidden his heart in a chest. The key is always with him, well hidden. Jack Sparrow tries to find the key with the help of his crony Will Turner.
  • Through a ruse, Will manages to become part of Davy’s crew, albeit unwillingly. On board the Flying Dutchman, Will gains the upper hand in a game of dice and is able to learn the key to the chest. Will’s stake is his soul and thus eternal servitude on Davy’s ship.
  • However, Will is clever and manages to obtain the key while Davy Jones is sleeping. He travels to Isla Cruces, where the chest with Davy Jones’ heart is said to be buried.
  • Since Jones cannot come ashore, he sends his crew to retrieve his heart. At the same time, he instructs the Kraken to find Jack Sparrow. The Kraken can track Jack down because of the black mark on his left hand, which he received from Davy’s crew.
  • A fight breaks out on Isla Cruces, in which the East India Trading Company also plays a role. James Norrington, who once belonged to the English trading company, can take possession of Davy Jones’ heart.
  • Davy’s crew, on the other hand, return to the Flying Dutchman with the chest they were looking for. However, the chest is empty, which ignites the captain’s anger. He hunts down Jack Sparrow, blaming him for his misfortune.
  • In a battle on the high seas, the Black Pearl and the Flying Dutchman meet. During the fight, Will Turner comes into possession of the chest and heart and fights alongside Jack Sparrow against Davy Jones. During the fight, Davy is fatally wounded, so Will is now captain of the Flying Dutchman.
