Your laptop can also be connected to the TV wirelessly, for example via WLAN. In most cases, a cable lying across the living room floor is a nuisance. To solve this problem, you can use a wireless connection
Connecting a laptop to the TV – the easiest way is via WLAN
The easiest way to connect a Smart TV to your laptop is via WLAN.
- Depending on the TV model, call up the “Settings” or “Network services” on your Smart TV.
- Here you will find the appropriate setting to enable a connection between the TV and laptop. The setting varies depending on the manufacturer. Search for “Screen Mirroring”, “Miracast” or a similar sounding setting and activate it.
- Next, connect your laptop to the TV set by starting the “Connect dialog” with the key combination [Windows] + [k].
- If you have activated the correct setting on the Smart TV, the TV set will appear in the list of possible connections.
- Click on the device name and then on “Connect”. The screen content of the laptop should now be streamed to the TV.
- Tip: You may receive the message “Your PC or mobile device does not support Miracast” on your laptop. If this is the case, you can usually solve the problem by updating the drivers on your laptop.
- Note for Apple users: If you have a MacBook, it is best to use Apple TV. As soon as the set-top box is connected to the same WLAN as the MacBook, you can stream via the AirPlay icon.
Connect your laptop and TV wirelessly via WHDI
If you do not want to use an HDMI cable, you also have the option of using these wireless alternatives:
- Using WHDI, content can be transmitted wirelessly from notebooks to the TV:
- To do this, connect the transmitter to the notebook. The receiver is connected to the HDMI input of the TV set.
- This allows you to wirelessly transfer movies, pictures and more to your TV.
- As this technology is not yet fully developed, these adapters are currently still very expensive.
- Wireless HDMI adapters are available at a reasonable price. If you want to transmit data over longer distances in Full HD with a wireless HDMI switch, you will have to dig deeper into your pockets.
Chromecast: Connect your laptop and TV at low cost
Chromecast works via WLAN and offers a cost-effective alternative.
- Simply connect the stick to the HDMI port on your TV and then to your Wi-Fi network
- The stick is then ready for use. To be able to play content from your laptop, you need the Chome app Google Cast.
- Connect your laptop to the same network as your Chromecast. Click on the “Cast” icon in the top right-hand corner to transfer content.
