Blackbeard – this is known about the character’s story from Pirates of the Caribbean

The Pirates of the Caribbean films are among the most famous and popular feature films of all time. Fans of the films know various characters from the films, such as Captain Jack Sparrow, Captain Davy Jones or Blackbeard, very well. However, even fans often don’t know the full story behind these characters.

  • The pirate Blackbeard was born in Bristol, England, in 1680. At that time, he was still named Edward Teach. The pirate only acquired the name “Blackbeard” at a later date.
  • Edward Teach grew up in poverty. He left Bristol at a young age and worked on a merchant ship that traveled to the Caribbean. In the Caribbean, he became a privateer on the English privateer ship called Queen Anne’s War.
  • After many battles with the Spanish and the French, the war ended in 1713. Edward Teach then decided to turn to piracy and joined the pirate crew of Captain Benjamin Hornigold.
  • Under the command of Captain Hornigold, Teach always worked obediently and loyally with his ship. Edward Teach received his first command in September 1717 on a ship called the Revenge.
  • On November 28, 1717, Teach captured a French frigate off the coast of Martinique with this ship. Teach kept the captured ship, converted it into a pirate ship, increased the number of cannons and gave the ship the new name “Queen Anne’s Revenge”.
  • At this time, Edward Teach grew a long, thick black beard, which earned him the nickname “Blackbeard”. With this name and a unique pirate flag that showed a devil’s skeleton with a spear and a wine goblet, he set out on many plundering expeditions.

  • The pirate Blackbeard is told by his clairvoyant quartermaster that he will be killed by a one-legged man in two weeks. If he does not succeed in finding the source of eternal youth, Blackbeard will soon die according to this prediction.
  • Blackbeard and his daughter Angelica force Captain Jack Sparrow to help them with the search by using a voodoo doll. After a long journey in which they have to overcome various dangers, they finally reach the Fountain of Youth, where they meet Captain Barbossa.
  • In a subsequent fight between the British soldiers, Captain Barbossa, Captain Jack Sparrow, Angelica and Blackbeard, the Spanish finally arrive. The Spanish Capitán tries to destroy the source and the fight begins again.
  • Blackbeard is not paying attention to Captain Barbossa at this point, but is trying to reach the source and save it. Captain Barbossa surprisingly stabs him in the back with his saber. Captain Barbossa’s saber is poisoned, which is why Blackbeard begins to die.
  • Angelica, Blackbeard’s daughter, tries to save her father after he asks her to sacrifice herself for him. Blackbeard’s daughter agrees through tears, but Captain Jack Sparrow tricks the two, so that Blackbeard dies an agonizing death and Angelica can live.
