WhatsApp lets you pin chats that you use often. This way, you can keep the conversations with your closest contacts at the top so you don’t have to search for them.
WhatsApp: How to pin chats on iOS & Android
If you write with many different people on WhatsApp, it’s annoying to always have to search for certain chats first. It’s best to pin your mom, partner or best friend right at the top for quick access to the conversation.
- Android: If you press and hold your finger on a chat on the WhatsApp overview page, a thumbtack symbol will appear at the top of the menu bar. Select the symbol to pin the selected chat.
- iOS: Open the chat overview and swipe from left to right on the desired chat. Then select the pushpin.
How to unpin a chat
You can pin up to three chats. It doesn’t matter whether it’s an individual or group chat. If you receive a new message in another chat, the pinned chats will still remain in first place.
- To unpin a chat in WhatsApp, simply press and hold the chat again on Android and then tap the crossed-out pushpin.
- On an iPhone, swipe right on the chat and tap “Unpin”.
Pin individual WhatsApp messages in the chat
You can not only pin entire chats on WhatsApp, but also individual messages at the top of the history.
- Open the chat and tap and hold on an individual message. Then tap “Pin”.
- Select how long you want the message to be visible at the top: 24 hours, seven days or 30 days.
