In order not to lose touch with the competition, WhatsApp is also offering a new function for sharing status. In this practical tip, we will show you what the function can do and how to use the status correctly.
WhatsApp Status: How it works
What has long been possible with Snapchat and Instagram is now also possible with WhatsApp. This is a new status function that consists of images. In the menu, you will now find the item “Status” in addition to the familiar categories such as “Chats” and “Calls”.
- The camera opens when you tap the plus button. Now you can take a photo or record a video, edit it if you want, and then add it to your status. Of course, you can also select existing images or videos from your gallery.
- Tap the pencil icon at the bottom to write your status in text format. You can add text and emojis to your status on a plain-colored background instead of images.
- Your status will be visible to all your contacts for 24 hours. If a second status is created afterwards, it will simply be appended to the first status.
- In the “Status” category, you will find a list of your WhatsApp friends who have currently posted a status. Simply tap the desired contact to see the status.
- Tip: In the “Settings” category, you will also find a function that allows you to exclude certain contacts from your status. This is particularly useful for distant acquaintances or work colleagues.
- Note: The update has caused the contact list to disappear from WhatsApp. In another article, we explain what this is all about and how you can still view your contacts.
To exclude certain contacts from the status function
If you want to maintain your privacy, you can exclude certain contacts from your WhatsApp status.
- To do this, go to the “Settings” category and select “Account”.
- Then tap “Privacy” and then “Status”. Here you have the option to select “My contacts except…”.
- Mark the contacts that should not see your status and confirm your selection.
- This way, your status will only be visible to the people you really want to share it with.
