Update WhatsApp – here’s how

by Michaela

WhatsApp can be easily updated via the Google Play Store or App Store. You need the latest version to use all the features.

Update WhatsApp: Android

You should update WhatsApp regularly to take advantage of all the latest features. Updates also fix any bugs. In most cases, the update is automatic. However, you can also update the messenger service manually.

  • If you are registered with your cell phone number, you must have the latest version, otherwise the registration will not work. Before the update, you should make sure that you have a good internet connection.

  • On Android devices, WhatsApp can be updated via the Google Play Store. If you have activated the function in the settings, you will receive a notification when a new update is available.

  • Open the Google Play Store on your Android device and tap on your profile. Then go to “Manage apps and device”. You will find all pending updates there. If a new version is available, WhatsApp will also appear under the updates.

  • Alternatively, you can also find available updates under “Manage apps and device” on the “Manage” tab. If WhatsApp is among them, you can simply check the box and update the app in the top right corner.

  • Another option is to search for WhatsApp directly in the Google Play Store. If an update is available, simply tap “Update” and wait until the download and installation are complete.

Update WhatsApp: Apple

On Apple devices, you can also simply update WhatsApp manually via the App Store. However, apps on the iPhone and iPad are usually updated automatically.

  • First, open the App Store. Next, tap on “My Account” or on your photo.

  • If you scroll all the way down, you will find pending downloads and version notes. If WhatsApp is among the apps, click “Update” next to the messenger. You can also update all apps at once.

  • It is also possible to search for WhatsApp in Apple and update it. To do this, simply click on “Update”.

  • Tip: In both Android (Google Play Store) and IOS (App Store), you can set your apps to always update automatically. This way, you can be sure that you always have the latest version of WhatsApp and that possible bugs are fixed.
