The error message “RAS server not resolved” indicates that no VPN connection establishment is possible. This can have various causes.
RAS server not resolved: Fix network problems
Often the RAS server cannot be resolved if there are problems with the VPN connection.
- If possible, change the available network or check the Internet connection. Resetting the router or modem may also help.
- Try a different server location if you are using a service like NordVPN. If the currently selected location has problems connecting, you may get the error message.
- It is possible that the connection establishment is blocked by your antivirus program or firewall. You can either turn off the firewall or program or set an exception for the VPN application.
Further troubleshooting for unresolved RAS servers
If the RAS server does not resolve, problems with the DNS cache, Winsock or your IP address may also be the cause.
- They block VPN applications and should be deleted or reset. This can be done via the command prompt, which you open from Windows 8 onwards via the key combination [Windows] and [X]. Then select the option Command Prompt, Command Prompt (Administrator), Windows PowerShell or Windows PowerShell (Administrator).
- To clear the DNS cache, enter the ipconfig /flushdns command. Now the DNS cache will be cleared, which will be confirmed by a message.
- To perform a winsock reset, you need two commands. Activate netsh winsock reset and netsh interface ip reset one after the other.
- If it is a problem with the IP address, first type ipconfig /release. The IP configuration used will be presented. Then renew it with the command ipconfig /renew.
- Restart the computer after entering the commands. It should now be possible to establish the connection.
