Move file: These options are available

by Pramith

Moving files is one of the very basic things you should know how to do when using Windows to keep your documents in order

How to move files

Moving files gives you the opportunity to organize your data structure and optimize it for you. The difference to copying is that after moving, the content can only be found in one place.

  • Select the file you want to move by clicking on it.
  • Then press the key combination Ctrl + X to cut the selected file.
  • Navigate to the folder to which you want to move the cut file. This folder can be on the same drive or on a different drive.
  • Then press the key combination Ctrl + V to move the cut file to the destination folder.
  • Make sure that it has been moved correctly by checking the destination folder. The moved content should now only be present in the new folder.

Move files with the mouse

Moving files using drag & drop with the computer mouse is more intuitive. This way you can easily see where you are moving your file to.

  • Navigate to the file you want to move and click on it to select it.
  • Press the shortcut Ctrl + N to open a new file manager window.
  • Navigate to the destination folder in this window.
  • Drag the file from the source folder to the destination folder using the left mouse button.
  • Keep the mouse button pressed until you have reached the destination folder and then release it.
