If GitHub is down, there may be a fault with the server or the problem may be with the computer’s settings. Only the latter is within your control.
GitHub down – possible causes and solutions
If you cannot reach GitHub, first check whether the problem is with GitHub or with your computer’s settings.
- If there is a problem with GitHub, you can find out quite easily via the GitHub status page or relevant fault reporting websites such as allesörungen.de. If you see a lot of messages from users here, there is probably a server problem. Then all you can do is wait until GitHub has solved the problem.
- If there are no error messages, a connection problem may be the reason. Check your Internet connection by going to another website. If this does not work, your Internet is not working and you must first establish a stable connection.
- If the internet connection is working, the problem with GitHub may be files in your browser’s cache. Clear your browser’s cache and try accessing GitHub again.
- If the problem is still not resolved, check your Windows settings. The firewall may be preventing the website from loading.
- If all the above solutions do not help and there are no reported glitches on GitHub, contact GitHub support.
