Windows PCs attract by far the most malware. Our comparison shows you whether the virus scanners from Avira or AVG provide better protection.
Avira and AVG – Which packages are available?
Both versions offer a free version, but also several paid options. In return, of course, there are more features.
– Avira Free Security: This is the version offered free of charge by Avira. It convinces with an intuitive interface, a good virus scanner and a Smart Scan function that detects hidden viruses directly in downloads.
– Avira Premium: Avira offers three different products, the prices are 26 € for Antivirus Pro, 33 € for Internet Security and 65 € for Avira Prime. While the cheapest package already comes with an adblocker and phishing protection, the other versions include a password manager, automatic driver updates and a VPN.
– AVG AntiVirus Free: The free product offered by AVG provides a classic virus scanner. This fell into the top 3 in our test with an overall score of 1.5. However, due to its high consumption of RAM, AntiVirus Free sometimes runs poorly on older computers.
– AVG Premium: AVG offers two versions for purchase in addition to the Free version. Internet Security costs 40 € per year, AVG Ultimate costs 60 €. The Internet Security offers protection against phishing and ransomware, in the Ultimate version you get a VPN and optimisation for your PC.
