Adobe InDesign: How to change the language

by Pramith

With Adobe InDesign, you can change the program interface to your preferred language at any time. The software is used worldwide

InDesign – how to change the language of the software

To be able to work in your preferred language in InDesign, all you have to do is change the default language. However, the time required for this is kept within manageable limits and in future all new applications will be installed directly in your language.

  • To change the language, first log in to the Adobe Creative Cloud. Then move the cursor to the top right-hand corner, click on the account icon and select the “Preferences” option
  • Then click on “Applications” in the sidebar. Then select your preferred language from the “Default installation language” list. Do not forget to confirm your changes by clicking on “Done”.
  • All Adobe applications that you download from this point on will then be automatically installed in the language you selected.
  • The changed language will be automatically adopted by all newly installed apps by default, but this does not apply to apps that have already been installed. In short: In order for the language change to take effect for the already installed InDesign, first uninstall the app. Once you have reinstalled InDesign, your desktop will appear in the language you selected.

InDesign – two alternatives

InDesign is a sophisticated program, but the fun is not cheap. Perhaps a less comprehensive app will suffice.

  • An alternative to InDesign is Affinity. The program consists of three parts: Designer, Photo and Publisher. You have the option of purchasing the design program as a complete package or you can buy individual apps. Affinity runs on all common operating systems. You do not have to take out a subscription, but purchase a valid license once. Affinity also offers a trial version.
  • Canva is also an interesting alternative to InDesign. The design platform provides you with countless images and functions to quickly create logos, posters, flyers, presentations and more. Canva offers both free access and a paid premium subscription.
