If you see the message “Viruses have been detected on your iPhone”, you should keep a cool head. Do not click on the message under any circumstances.
Viruses have been detected on your iPhone: What does that mean
As long as you have not modified iOS, for example by jailbreaking, a virus on the iPhone is possible, but very unlikely. iPhones are much better protected against viruses than Android smartphones because of their closed system. However, phishing on the iPhone can be used to get your data. This is usually attempted by a virus message.
- The message will appear when you surf the web with Safari. Along with the warning, you will also receive a note that you can remove the virus by tapping “OK”. Do not do this under any circumstances!
- You don’t have a virus on your iPhone. The false report with the supposed immediate help is intended to trick you into tapping the “OK” button.
- In doing so, the people behind the campaign want to gain access to your Apple account and personal data.
This is how to react to a virus message
As already explained: Do not click on anything in the virus message. Simply closing the page can be difficult as long as the message is displayed.
- The solution is quite simple: disable JavaScript. To do this, open the settings and scroll down to “Safari”.
- Here, tap “Advanced” and disable “JavaScript” using the slider.
- Now close the Safari app by double-clicking the Home button and swiping up.
- Then restart Safari. The page will now appear, but without the virus message pop-up. Close the affected page and also delete the history in Safari.
- Finally, you can re-enable Javascript for the Safari browser.
