Corona warning app: Transfer vaccination certificate to new mobile phone – this is how it works

After changing your mobile phone, you should also transfer the Corona warning app including the vaccination certificate to the new device. Fortunately, this is very easy – we show you how to do it.

How to transfer your vaccination certificate to a new mobile phone

There is no limit to how many times you can scan the QR code of the vaccination certificate you received directly after your vaccination or at the pharmacy. You can therefore easily scan the code again on your new smartphone. You can even use the QR code on the old smartphone for the new scan:

• Open the Corona warning app on your old smartphone.

• Tap Certificates in the menu bar at the bottom. Select the certificate you want to transfer to the new smartphone.

• Install the Corona Warn app on the new smartphone and launch it afterwards.

• After confirming all the instructions when you launch the app for the first time, click the round scan icon in the bottom menu bar.

• Hold your new smartphone with the camera over your old smartphone so that the QR code of the vaccination certificate to be transferred is clearly and sharply visible. This will now be scanned automatically and saved in the warning app on your new smartphone.

This is what you need to know about the transfer

You do not have to delete the certificate on the old smartphone either before or after scanning if you want to continue using it as well.

• If you do not want to continue using your old smartphone yourself, you should remove the vaccination certificate. To do this, uninstall the app. If you want to sell or give away the old smartphone, we recommend resetting it to the factory settings beforehand.

• The data collected by the Corona Warning App for your personal risk determination will not be transferred together with the vaccination certificate. So the determination period starts all over again on the new device.

If you no longer have access to your old smartphone and you have also lost the printout with the QR code, contact the doctor, vaccination centre or pharmacy from which you received the code. You will then be issued with a new code.
