In track changes mode, Word monitors all changes to a document. If you no longer want this, you can disable the mode at any time.
How to turn off track changes in Microsoft Word
Microsoft Word’s review mode is particularly helpful when you are working on a document with other people. This is because every change to the text can be tracked and, if necessary, undone by all participants. To disable the mode again:
- Switch from the Word toolbar to the Review category.
- Now click the Track Changes button to disable the function. This will no longer highlight the button.
- Tip: You can also press the keyboard shortcut [Ctrl] + [Shift] + [E] to exit the revision mode.
- You can use the same method to re-enable the revision mode.
- If the button is disabled, the function is password protected. Click the arrow below the button and select Untrack. Then enter the password.
Review mode Accept or reject changes
Even if you leave the review mode, changes to the document will remain visible until you either accept or reject them. Remember to accept or reject changes in Word if you want to publish the document, for example.
- Click the Accept button in the Review tab to keep the current change. Select the Reject button instead to undo the change.
- Use the Back and Next buttons to switch between changes without changing their status.
- Use the arrow below the respective button to access further functions and, for example, accept or reject all changes at once.
