Exporting contacts from Outlook – it’s easy to do
Outlook is one of the most popular e-mail programs. This is not surprising, as the program offers many different features that you can access. For example, you can easily export your contacts from Outlook in just a few steps.
- If you want to export your contacts from Outlook, it only takes a few steps. First, open the e-mail program. Now go to “File” and select the “Options” tab. Then click “Advanced”.
- Now select the “Export” option under “Export”. On the first page of the Import/Export Wizard, go to the “Export to a file” tab. Then click on the “Next” option.
- Now go to “Delimited Values” and then to “Next”. Select the folder containing the contacts you want to export from the folder list and then click “Next”.
- Now you can select a location on your computer to save the file. You can also give the file a name. It’s best to choose a default or custom name for your file so that you can quickly find the exported file. Then click “Next”.
- If you want to change the way the contact information is stored in the file, you can easily do so. To do this, go to the “Assign custom fields” tab. Various changes can be made here.
- Finally, select the “Finish” option. This will save the export of your contacts.
- Note: The steps described apply to Outlook 2013, 2016, 2019 and Outlook for Microsoft 365. The steps may differ slightly for older versions.

With just a few clicks, you can also easily import your Outlook contacts into Gmail.
- First, log in to your Gmail account with your user data. Then select the “Contacts” option in Gmail.
- Then click on “More” and then on “Import”. Select the “Import” option under “Browse”. Now select the exported files that you want to import into Gmail. Click on “Import” to import the files into Gmail.
- But: Since 2019, access to Google Contacts in Gmail may be available directly from the Google App Launcher, not necessarily from “More.”
- The user interfaces in both Outlook and Gmail change from time to time. Therefore, changes are also possible in the menus and options.
