Apple’s Genius has to be activated separately in iTunes, which is why many users wonder if the service costs anything. We will explain it to you.
Apple Genius – sometimes associated with costs
Apple or iTunes Genius has been a new feature on Apple’s music platform since the eighth version. It automatically combines songs that Apple thinks go well together. To do this, you have to activate Genius.
- Function: If you activate Genius in iTunes, your library will be analyzed. The service then creates playlists and mixes of your songs that go well together. You will also be offered music, movies and shows that you might like based on the content in your library.
- Costs: Creating playlists with Genius and getting music suggestions is completely free. However, if you want to add one of the suggested items to your library – a new song, for example – you’ll need to purchase it through iTunes. But don’t worry about this happening without your knowledge or unintentionally: You will be asked to enter your password before every purchase.
- Alternative shops for songs: If you like a song that Genius suggests, you don’t necessarily have to buy it from iTunes. You can also purchase the title from competitors such as Musicload or Amazon and then add it to your iTunes library.
- Activation: To activate Genius in iTunes, either click on “Genius” in the menu bar on the left or click on the menu button in the upper left corner. Here you can activate “Genius” under “iTunes”.
Apple Genius Bar
The Genius Bar is where you make an appointment if you have problems with your iPhone or other iOS devices. The cost of the Apple Genius Service can vary depending on the type of assistance you need. Several factors play a role:
- Warranty and AppleCare+: If your device is covered by the standard warranty or AppleCare+ (extended warranty with additional protection for accidents), the costs could be significantly reduced or even free.
- Type of repair: Software issues are often fixed for free, while hardware repairs, such as replacing screens or batteries, are chargeable.
- Device model: Older models may be more expensive to repair because replacement parts may be less common and more expensive.
- An alternative to the physical Genius Bar is online support from Apple Support.
