Scanning with the MacBook: How it works in macOS

by Dani

You can scan documents with the MacBook. This makes office work easier for you privately or professionally. You can save important documents directly in digital form and send them easily. Read more here.

How to scan with your Macbook

Scanning with your Macbook works through a pre-installed application. You need to connect this programme to your printer and scanner.

  • To do this, connect your printer or scanner to your Macbook. Follow the instructions of the external device to do this.
  • Now go to your “System Preferences” by clicking on the Apple icon in the upper left corner or find the app in your Dashboard.
  • Here you will find the “Printers & Scanners” tab. Then click on the appropriate device in the left bar.

The different scanners

Depending on the device, you have different options on how to scan your document through the Macbook.

  • If you have a scanner with a document feeder, it can scan your document in just one step. To do this, select “Use document feeder”.
  • Open “Show Details” for more setting options such as image type, storage location or size. Select what you need here accordingly.
  • With a flatbed scanner, you can scan a series of small images in one go. The device is therefore suitable for digitising analogue photos.
  • To do this, stop selecting “Use document feeder”. Instead, select the appropriate size of the image to be scanned under “Size”.
