Shrink photos without additional software
The following instructions refer in part to Windows computers. If you use a Mac or a MacBook, you can find a suitable guide to compression for Mac OS X here.
- Online: The quickest way to reduce the size of your images is to do it online. On websites such as ILoveIMG and CompressJPEG you can upload your images and then have them reduced in size according to various criteria in order to download them again. In some cases, this reduces the size of the images by over 50 per cent.
- Paint: Search for the desired picture and click on it with the right mouse button. Now select “Paint” under the item “Open with”. Then click on the “Resize” button at the top and reduce the percentage from 100 to a lower number (see picture). You can then save the result.
- WinRAR: Alternatively, you can compress your images losslessly. All you need is a packing software like WinRAR. The quality does not decrease during compression, but the compression is also relatively low. You can find suitable instructions in this guidebook.
- Tip: If you often want to reduce the size of pictures, it may be worthwhile to use additional software. Programmes such as TinyPic or the Image Resizer are extremely slim and reduce the size of your pictures in just a few seconds.
