Printer drivers under MacOS X do not usually update themselves automatically. You have to download the necessary drivers yourself
MacOS X: Updating printer drivers via the App Store
Updating the MacOS X printer drivers is not possible automatically. You may be able to obtain the appropriate update via the App Store:
- Open the App Store on your system. There you will find the Updates tab. Select this tab:
- Check here whether Apple has the latest printer driver updates available for you. You can start the update automatically using the Update button. .
- The App Store will then take care of the installation. Depending on the printer model, it may be possible to restart the system after the update.
- Important: This method only works for devices with MacOS 10.9 (Mavericks) or higher. The App Store is no longer available for older versions of the operating system.
Update printer driver under MacOS X: Download updates manually
If you are using an older MacOS X device or if you cannot find the update for the printer in the App Store, you must download and install it manually.
- To do this, visit the printer manufacturer’s website. There you only need to search for the necessary printer driver
- You can do this using the model name or product number, for example. Our driver overview can also help you.
- Download and install the printer driver. The installation instructions can usually be found on the printer manufacturer’s website.
- If you install printer software from the manufacturer, it may not appear automatically updated. Simply restart the Mac for this.
