During the summer months a pool is really great, but before the cold season you need to winterise your pool again. There are a few things to keep in mind so that the pool survives the winter well and you can use it again next year.
How to make your pool winterproof
To ensure that your pool survives the winter well, you should make the appropriate preparations and start in good time. As soon as you can no longer use the pool due to the cold outside temperatures, you should start winterising it.
- Ground cleaning of the pool: Send your pool clean for the winter holiday. Remove any dirt such as insects and leaves with a landing net and clean the rest, such as the bottom of the pool, with a brush.
- Adjusting the PH and chlorine values: The pH value should be between 7.0 and 7.2, while the chlorine value must not exceed 0.8 mg per litre. You should carry out this so-called shock chlorination about 5 days before you winterise the pool.
- Lowering the water level: Don’t worry, you don’t have to drain the water completely, the rule of thumb is about a third. Just make sure that the inlet gland gets a winter plug.
- Special winter agent: Your pool water should be given a special winter agent during the winter months. This prevents algae growth and limescale deposits.
- Ice pressure pad: You do not necessarily need a so-called ice pressure pad, but it is useful to protect the pool walls from frost.
- Tidying up: Don’t forget to tidy up all the loose pool parts. This includes, for example: entry ladders, heat pump, sand filter system, counter-current system and the pool heater.
- Pool cover: If you don’t already have a pool cover, you should buy one that is about 60 to 80 cm larger than the pool dimensions and is tear-resistant. Make sure that it is secured against wind and weather.
