If you want to set up your Christmas tree properly, then you should consider important aspects regarding safety, transport and location. In this article, you will find out what you should look out for
Putting up a Christmas tree properly – before putting it up
In some families it is a tradition to decorate the Christmas tree only on Christmas Eve, then it is usually bought shortly before. However, it is advisable to buy the tree a little earlier.
- If the fir is bought beforehand, it has the opportunity to spread its branches and does not “move” afterwards. It also allows it to adapt to the changing climate conditions.
- To keep the tree fresh, you can cut a slice of several centimetres off the stump with loppers and place it in a bucket of water. The tree can now better absorb the water through the wound created on the bark.
- When you finally free the fir from your transport net, it is best to do so as follows: Cut open the lower third and then place it in the stand. Once this is done, then open the net from the bottom up. This way you can easily remove the net and the tree is already standing.
The right way to put up the Christmas tree
Both the right location and certain safety measures need to be taken into account when you want to put up your fir tree.
- It is important to protect the tree from direct sunlight, preferably also from draughts. Directly in front of a heater is also not a suitable place. All of this has a negative effect on the durability of the tree.
- The biggest source of danger with the Christmas tree is, of course, real candles. If this risk is too high for you, then resort to electric lights. But if you don’t want to miss out on real candles, then make sure that you don’t have the tree near flammable materials.
- Never leave a tree with lit candles unattended. Especially not if you have small children or pets. It is advisable to always have a bucket of extinguishing water near the tree in case of emergency.
