Germany has many large cities, but a look at the statistics reveals which is the largest. Most people live in the state capital Berlin.
- With 3.76 million inhabitants, Berlin is the largest city in Germany, according to Statista. It is followed by Hamburg with around 1.9 million and Munich with 1.5 million inhabitants.
- And the capital is also ahead in terms of area: Berlin is 891.12 square kilometers in size, putting it well ahead of Hamburg (755.09 km²) and Gardelegen (632.55 km²). Compared to Paris, Berlin is even nine times as large.
- 4,000 people live in the capital per square kilometer. And the number is growing every year: according to Statista, the capital recorded 166,524 new arrivals in 2021.
