An iPad can also be affected by a virus under certain circumstances. This is especially the case if you have made changes to the settings
Virus on the iPad: When it can be
The iPad is basically well protected against viruses. If you have changed something in the basic settings of the iPad, the device can be at risk from viruses.
- If you have jailbroken your iPad, the device is vulnerable to viruses. A jailbreak is a change to the operating system that is carried out via special software.
- This is used to make changes to the menu of the device, for example. This makes the device highly susceptible to the viruses. If you suspect a virus on the iPad, you can run a virus scan.
- On the other hand, a conventional device is equipped with virus protection via the App Store, for example. If you download a file here, it is checked for viruses.
- However, if you surf the Internet, you can catch a virus just like on a computer. The malware can damage the device accordingly. Although there are no known viruses on iPads so far, there is still a risk of them.
Remove virus from iPad via reset
If your iPad behaves strangely, hangs or does not show you what it is supposed to, a virus may – but does not have to – be responsible. Reset the device to its factory settings and you are on the safe side.
- Back up your data via iTunes or your iCloud. That way, you won’t lose anything that’s important to you.
- Then go to “Settings” ☻ “General” ☻ “Reset” as well as “Reset all settings”.
- You will be prompted to enter the security code. Confirm this with “Erase iPad”. All files will be removed from the iPad together with the virus.
