The message “Mobile data network could not be activated” often appears on the iPhone after an update of the operating system or when using it for the first time. No matter where the cause lies, you can usually solve the problem with a few simple steps.
“Mobile data network could not be activated” – reasons and solutions
If you receive the message “Mobile data network could not be activated” when you call up a website, for example, your iPhone cannot access the Internet. The reason for this is usually an error in the settings, but temporary errors can also cause the problem. Therefore, try the simplest solutions first:
- Flight mode: Open the settings or the control center and activate the flight mode there. Wait a few seconds and turn off flight mode again to reconnect to the mobile network.
- Restart: A restart can also solve the problem. To do this, switch off your iPhone completely and then switch it on again. Errors in the cache will be deleted.
- SIM card: If you are using a physical SIM card, remove it from the iPhone and then reinsert the SIM.
iPhone: Configure the mobile data network correctly
In order to use the mobile data network, you often need to set the correct access data. These vary from provider to provider and are not always correctly pre-configured.
- First, open the “Settings” app on your iPhone.
- Now select the menu item “Mobile Network” at the top.
- Under “Mobile data network” you can now make the settings you need.
- In the columns “APN”, “Username” and “Password” you must now enter the appropriate values so that you can use the mobile network. You can find this information in the next paragraph
Mobile operator access data
Each mobile operator assigns different data for APN, user name, and password. Due to a large number of providers, we cannot list all access data here. If you do not find what you are looking for here, google the name of your mobile phone provider with the addition “mobile data”.
- Vodafone: APN: web.vodafone.de, username, and password remain empty
- T-Mobile (also providers like Congstar and Klarmobil) APN: the internet. t-mobile or APN: internet.t-d1.de, username: TMobile, password: t
- O2: APN: internet, username, and password remain empty
Last help: Delete network settings
If you still haven’t fixed the problem, there is one last option left, resetting the network settings.
- Open the “Settings” app and select the “General” category here.
- Select the option “Network settings” here.
- Confirm your decision with “Reset” and set up the mobile network again as described above.
