In iOS, the WLAN sometimes cannot be activated. We show you how to successfully connect to your WLAN network again.
Enable iOS Wi-Fi: In most cases, a reboot is all it takes
In general, you should always keep your iOS up to date and have the latest version installed on your device. In most cases, restarting your iOS device is then the easiest and quickest way to solve the problem:
- To do this, press and hold the Home and Power buttons simultaneously for a few seconds until your device reboots. After the boot process, check again in the “Settings” whether the option for WLAN is greyed out. If it is, try the next solution.
- On newer devices without a home button, press one of the volume buttons and the side button at the same time until the slider for switching off appears. Slide this slider to the right to turn off the iPhone. To turn off, press and hold the side button until the Apple logo appears.
Reset iOS network settings
If a simple reboot doesn’t help, you can reset your network settings to reconnect to a Wi-Fi network
- To do this, open the “Settings” and go to the “General” tab.
- Scroll to the “Reset” item and open it.
- Click on “Network settings” and confirm with your security code. Now all your network settings with connections and passwords will be deleted. Likewise, all VPN, APN and Bluetooth settings will be reset. If this still does not solve your problem, continue with the next point.
Inconvenient but powerful: the backup
A somewhat tedious but promising solution to get the WLAN working again on your iOS device is a backup via iTunes:
- First, back up your iOS device with a backup via iTunes.
- Then reset your device with iTunes and restore the backup. You should then be able to connect to a WLAN again via the “Settings”.
Last resort: Apple Support
If all previous solutions do not help and your WLAN still cannot be activated, it is probably a hardware defect in the chip or the antenna.
- The only solution in this case: help from customer support. You can reach them by e-mail or phone, or you can make an appointment at an Apple Store near you.
