The biggest weakness of Apple’s iPhones is the home button. However, you can often repair a defective home button instead of replacing it, which is expensive and time-consuming.
iPhone home button repair: What you need
After some time, dust and dirt can accumulate between the contacts of the home button. This disturbs the contact and the home button only works when pressed hard or not at all. Before you replace the home button, you should try to clean the contacts. You do not have to open the iPhone to do this. A contact spray penetrates the gap around the home button.
- There are sets with special tools for thorough and professional cleaning.
- You can also use a simple contact cleaner instead.
- You will also need a blunt object to press the Home button and a cloth to clean it with.
How to repair the iPhone home button
Turn off your iPhone and then start cleaning it.
- Place a drop of the cleaning fluid in the hollow of the home button so that it is completely filled.
- Press the home button with a blunt object about ten times until the liquid has run into the gap.
- Now press and hold the home button for a few minutes. Change the angle now and then so that the liquid cleans the entire contact area.
- Wait ten minutes and switch your iPhone back on.
- If the home button still does not work, you can repeat the procedure after one day. If this does not help either, the home button must be replaced.
