With iOS 16, many new possibilities were added to personalise the lock screen of your iPhone. Inspired by the design of the Apple Watch, new widgets are available as well as other functions.

How to personalise your lock screen on iPhone

The update to iOS 16 came on 12 September 2022.Compatible for iOS 16 are all models from iPhone 8 onwards.

  • You can now easily and intuitively customise your lock screen to your habits and preferences under this system update.
  • Hold your finger on the lock screen. You will now see your personalisation options.
  • You can choose from the following categories: “Photos”, “People”, “Random photo playback”, “Emoji”, “Weather”, “Astronomy” and “Colour”. Furthermore, you have the option to choose a suggested design or photo.
  • For the photos, you can choose between four photo styles. In addition to “Natural”, you can also choose “Black & White”, “Duotone” and “Colourise”. The last two options can still be edited if you tap on the symbol with the three dots and select “Style colour”
  • If you tap the date, you can also choose a different widget. For the clock, you can now choose between different fonts and colours.
  • Once you have made all the customisations and personalisations, you can simply tap on “Done”.
  • Focus: With iOS 16, you can use Focus to personalise your messages, for example, and even create multiple lock screens to separate your work screen from your private screen, for example. With notifications, you decide which app application can send you notifications and which cannot. These appear at the bottom of the screen from iOS 16 onwards to present fewer distractions.

This is also changing in iOS 16

In addition to the lock screen, quite a few things changed with the new update.

  • To make sharing photos easier, Apple provides a shared library that automatically shares photos with six users.
  • There’s also news within the Messages app. It is possible to edit or retract recently sent messages. In addition to editing messages, Apple is also upgrading the point of collaboration. For example, videos can be streamed synchronously via SharePlay and notes and other content can be shared directly in Messages for collaboration.
  • Similar to the Messages app, the Mails app also includes the function to withdraw emails or edit them in the follow-up.
  • In future, it will be possible to enter stopovers for your route within maps.
  • In addition to the changes mentioned above, there are a number of other major and minor adjustments.
