Live Activities have arrived on the iPhone with iOS 16.1. What you can do with the function and whether the use of the new feature makes sense for you, you will find out in this practical tip.
What are live activities on the iPhone?
With the upgrade to iOS 16.1, Apple has added a feature for those who like to be kept up to date. By live activities, the iPhone manufacturer means ongoing, interactive notifications that are displayed immediately on the lock screen. If you are following a football match, for example, the live activities inform you about the result in real time – without having to unlock the iPhone. Or you can have information about your upcoming flight played out before you start your journey. The prerequisite, however, is that the corresponding apps already support the new feature.
Which apps support iPhone Live Activities?
The list of apps that make use of the live activities is still small, but many app developers should soon follow suit. The following apps already offer the function:
- SmartGym: Workout and training
- Pestle: Recipe Organizer
- Crouton: Cooking Companion
- Landscape: Mountaineering
- Flighty – Fast Flight Tracker
Enable live activity on iPhone
Live Activities should already be enabled on your iPhone with the update to iOS 16.1. The prerequisite is, of course, that your model is already compatible with iOS 16. If this is the case, but Live Activities are still not preset, proceed as follows:
- Open the Settings app.
- Navigate to “FaceID & Code” and unlock the device.
- Scroll down still to Live Activities and set the slider to turn green.
