iPhone is getting hot – what you can do about it - Practical Tips

iPhone is getting hot – what you can do about it

by Tobias

In some situations, the iPhone may get hot. However, this is not always a cause for concern.

iPhone is getting hot – what you can do

If your iPhone gets too hot quickly, you should check the following:

  • Power: If your iPhone gets too hot while you’re using it, put it aside for a few minutes or turn it off.

  • Case: Some cases trap heat, causing your iPhone to quickly become very warm. Use the device without a case to test whether the protection is not harming your phone. Change the case if necessary.

  • Apps: If you demand too much of your iPhone (while charging), it will quickly get hot. If possible, close all applications that are running in the background or using a GPS signal. To do this, press the Home button twice in succession or swipe up from the bottom on newer iPhones.

  • Brightness: In summer, the display usually automatically adjusts to maximum brightness due to the strong sunlight. This puts more strain on the battery and the temperature inside rises. Therefore, it may be worthwhile to deactivate the auto-brightness.

  • LTE/4G: If you are not connected to the WLAN but to the mobile network, this can also cause increased temperatures in the iPhone. This is especially the case if you are in the LTE network and the reception is rather weak. In this case, the iPhone tries to compensate for the weak signal by increasing its transmitting power. If you can do without it, temporarily switch off 4G.

  • Reset: If your iPhone continues to struggle with heat problems, a reset can help. If the system is no longer running smoothly due to a software problem, too much power is being drawn, causing excessive heat. If nothing else helps, reset the iPhone to the factory settings.

iPhone is getting warm – What you should know

In some situations, it is quite normal for the device to get warmer. As long as the iPhone does not display a temperature warning, the problem should quickly resolve itself.

  • When you charge your iPhone wirelessly, the smartphone always gets a little warmer. If your iPhone gets hot quickly, you should not use it during the charging process.

  • Even when you are setting up your iPhone for the first time or restoring a backup, the device is under a great deal of stress and will heat up as a result.

  • Playing games or watching high-resolution videos in particular causes more heat to build up. Camera apps have the same effect.
