If you want to know how fast your iPhone or iPad is compared to other devices, you should perform a benchmark test. We introduce you to two well-known performance tests and reveal how good your personal iOS device really is
AnTuTu Benchmark: Measure iPhone and iPad performance
The most common benchmark test is the free app AnTuTu for iPhone and iPad. The tool performs an intensive performance check with your device, evaluates the individual units and compares it with the results of others.
- To do this, install the free tool via the App Store.
- Then close all background apps and open the programme. There, tap on “Start Testing” at the top.
- The app now carries out an extensive benchmark test. For this purpose, various 3D sequences are simulated and the performance is measured. During the test, the screen may go black or flicker from time to time.
- After a few minutes you will receive a comprehensive test result with ratings for 3D performance, CPU and RAM.
Geekbench 5: Put iOS devices through their paces
Even more comprehensive than AnTuTu is the performance check of Geekbench. In several different test procedures, the app uses an animation to check the computing and graphics power of your iDevice and calculates a score from it.
- Again, close all background apps before the test. Then start the benchmark app Geekbench 5
- Now select the test procedure you want to run.
- The app then starts the benchmark test. This process takes several minutes depending on the number of procedures selected.
- At the end, you receive a score for each individual test, which you can compare with other devices.
