iPhone backup to external hard drive – here’s how

by Johannes

If you use your iPhone regularly, you should create a backup on an external hard drive. Since files and co. take up a lot of memory on the phone, storing them externally is a safe method.

Create a backup on an external hard drive: Here’s how

If you have a lot of files on your smartphone, you should save the files to an external hard drive.

  • First create a current backup of your iPhone. To do this, first connect your iPhone to your computer, such as a Mac.
  • Go to the Finder in the left bar. There you will find your iPhone. Click on it. A new menu item will open.
  • Click on the button “Create backup now” in the item Backups. If you want to encrypt your backup with a password, then place a check mark next to “Encrypt local backup”.
  • Once you’ve done that, you need to find the right location for your backup.

To finish the backup

Once you have made all the preparations for the backup, proceed as follows. By the way: You will also need the backup if you transfer your data to a new iPhone.

  • Now open the Finder and click on “Go to”.
  • Once the drop-down menu is open, simultaneously hold down the Select or Option key.
  • Simply copy the backups to an external hard drive.
  • If you ever lose your files, simply copy the backup from the external hard drive to the backup folder on your hard drive and use it as a backup for your smartphone.
