In September 2023 Apple publishes the iPhone 15. Here the question arises whether the iPhone 14 or the iPhone 15 is better and whether a change is worthwhile at all.
iPhone 15: For whom is an upgrade worthwhile?
In September 2023, Apple is expected to introduce the new iPhone 15 series. As in previous generations, four models are planned.
- A switch to Pro could be worthwhile for iPhone owners from the standard model (e.g. iPhone 14) with interest in Dynamic Island, better camera, USB-C, titanium case, more battery capacity and performance.
- However, for existing iPhone Pro owners, the upgrade to the iPhone 15 Pro model does not seem to be recommended, as apart from a higher battery capacity, the changed case and USB-C, no other brilliant improvements are said to be present.
These are the innovations the iPhone 15 is said to receive
At WWDC23, Apple is expected to plan the unveiling of the brand new iPhone 15 series. What rumours about the new iPhone are being talked about:
- Larger display with Dynamic Island: The standard iPhone 15 model will have a 0.1-inch (2.54 mm) larger display with Dynamic Island. The notch was previously only omitted from the Pro models of the iPhone 14.
- Better camera: The main camera of both models increases to 48 megapixels and is thus as good as that of the iPhone 14 Pro. The ultra-wide-angle camera is expected to remain at 12 megapixels as before.
- New chip: The iPhone 15 gets an upgrade from the A15 to the A16 Bionic chip. This is currently also only installed in the iPhone 14 Pro models.
- Connection: Apple could also change the connection from Lightning to USB-C due to the EU directive.
- Battery: The battery of the standard model has a total of 3877 milliampere hours, 598 milliampere hours more than the predecessor model. The Pro models also have higher battery capacities.
- Name: The largest version of the iPhone is to be renamed from iPhone Pro Max to iPhone Ultra.
- New design: The iPhone 15 could be slightly more rounded than its predecessor. The frame is also said to be made of titanium.
- Price: Given global inflation and rising prices for production and delivery, it is conceivable that the iPhone 15 will be more expensive than any other Apple phone to date.
- Updates: New iPhones will always get the latest iOS operating system for the next five to six years and critical security updates even longer. So if you buy an iPhone 15, you can look forward to support until 2028/2029
