An iPad for school can be a useful and interactive tool. But to do so, you first need to pick the right model from the wide range on offer. In this article, you will find out which features the iPad should have.
iPad for school: These are the features that matte
For school use, an iPad can be quite useful. With it, the child can take notes, save files, take photos or make drawings. In addition, the Apple tablet scores with reliable hardware.
- Both the iPad (the model with no other additional designation) and the iPad Air are suitable for beginners.
- The iPad can be described as a basic model that can handle all basic functions well. The display is just big enough at 10.2 inches, but the processor is not always the fastest. However, it will handle everyday school use without any problems.
- A big plus is the price: the 64 gigabyte model costs just over 400 euros. By Apple standards, that’s cheap. In addition, the iPad supports the Apple Pencil.
- Tip: As an alternative to the original Apple Pencil, you can also use the Logitech Crayon pen, which is significantly cheaper.
- The iPad Air has an anti-reflective 10.5-inch display that adjusts its colour temperature to the ambient light conditions. Under the bonnet is a fast A12 chip for smooth and fluid work.
- The iPad Air can also be operated with the first-generation Apple Pencil. There is also a Smart Connector on the model, which allows an external keyboard to be connected. The iPad Air is available with a storage capacity of 64 to 256 GB.
- By the way: All iPad models are offered as WiFi and WiFi/Cellular models. This means: Either the device supports only WLAN or also mobile radio in addition to WLAN. Since digitalisation in schools in Germany is less advanced, an iPad with a mobile phone module should be used.
iPad Pro models for professionals
Those who want to work more professionally, need a larger display or want to make drawings will be happy with the Pro models.
- The iPad Pro with 11-inch display is laminated, anti-reflective and supports the so-called ProMotion technology. This enables a refresh rate of up to 120 hertz. In practice, this means that the operation of the iPad is smooth and the response time is short.
- The performance of the Pro model is supported by the strong A12Z processor and the new Apple Pencil 2. The internal storage is more than sufficient with 128 and 256 gigabytes. One drawback is the lack of a headphone jack and the high price.
- The iPad Pro 12.9 inch offers a pleasantly large screen. Especially for creative work, the approximately 13 inches are very advantageous. You can easily edit pictures, make drawings and sketches or shoot and edit videos. This size also allows you to use the Magic Keyboard to turn the iPad into a laptop replacement.
- Other than that, the features are similar or identical to those of the 11-inch model. On both models, the two wide-angle cameras with up to 12 megapixels are impressive.
- At over 1,100 euros, however, the Pro model is not exactly a bargain – especially not for students.
