New with the Apple Watch Series 9 is not only the case colour rosé, but also numerous features that distinguish the new model from its predecessor.
Apple Watch Series 9 – the new features
New and improved features are available with the Apple Watch Series 9.
- New chip: While an Apple Watch processor S8 was still working in the Apple Watch 8, a newly developed S9 SiP chip provides more performance in the Apple Watch Series 9. With 5.6 billion transistors, the new dual-core CPU has 60 per cent more than the predecessor chip. A 4-core neural engine is said to process machine learning tasks twice as fast.
- New gesture: Those with their hands full will still be able to operate their Apple Watch in future thanks to a new double-tap gesture. The watch recognises it as a gesture when you tap the thumb and index finger of the hand on which you are wearing the watch together twice in succession. With this gesture, you can answer a call or open a message, but also play or stop music, for example – without touching the watch.
- Bright display: The new chip not only enables the double-tap gesture, but also ensures a brighter display with a luminance of 2,000 nits. By comparison, the Apple Watch 8 had a luminance of 1,000 nits.
- Ultra-wideband chip: With the new ultra-wideband chip, the Apple Watch Series 9 finds its iPhone faster and more precisely. Not only is the distance to the smartphone accurately displayed, you also receive an audible and haptic notification when you approach the iPhone. In addition, the Smart Watch detects when you are in the vicinity of your Homepod and then shows a control widget for your music on the display.
- Improved Siri voice assistant: Siri not only gets access to your health data, so it’s possible to query data from the Apple Health app, such as how long you slept. Siri processes the queries directly on the watch, without connecting to the Apple server. In addition, the Siri dictation function is said to be 25 per cent more accurate.
What else is new with the Apple Watch Series 9
As mentioned at the beginning, the Apple Watch comes in a new colour.
- As with the Apple Watch Series 8, the stainless steel models come in gold, silver and graphite.
- Those who opt for an Apple Watch with an aluminium frame can now choose the rosé variant in addition to the midnight, polar star, (PRODUCT)RED and silver colours.
- There is also a change in the watch straps: leather is no longer available. The reason for this is that Apple is working on a more environmentally conscious image and is therefore doing away with animal products.
- The new model is available with a strap made of a so-called “Fine Woven” fabric instead of a leather strap. This is a very finely woven material that is somewhat reminiscent of suede but is animal-free.
