Apple Watch 10 vs. 9: An overview of the details

At first glance, the Apple Watches 9 and 10 hardly seem to differ. Stylish and elegant, the watches fit easily on the wrist and provide some useful information that goes far beyond the time. But a closer look is worthwhile.

  • Although it is not obvious at first, the new Apple Watch comes with a larger case. While the Apple Watch Series 9 is between 41 and 45 millimeters in size, depending on the model, the Apple Watch 10 impresses with 42 or 46 millimeters.
  • In addition, Apple has optimized the choice of cases. The manufacturer offers the Series 10 as well as the Apple 9 with a high-quality aluminum case. The stainless steel model, on the other hand, has given way to a lighter version made of titanium.
  • In terms of color, Apple has made some compromises. In the titanium version, you can choose from models in gray, gold or black. The aluminum models are available in silver, rose gold with a matte finish and glossy black.
  • The display has also undergone some changes: Apple Watch 10 has rounder corners than Apple 9. In addition, the display edge is designed to be thinner. The OLED extends well beyond the edge of the case. This provides a larger display and a more generous display area.
  • Unlike the Watch 9, the model 10 appears to be more stable in terms of viewing angle. The display is easier to read from the side and is therefore more convenient. With the right protective films, you can protect the high-quality display in the best possible way.
  • However, the Apple Watch 10 is not only thinner and slightly larger than the Apple Watch 9. It is also lighter. By way of comparison, the aluminum version of the Apple Watch 9 weighs just under 32 grams, while the stainless steel version weighs as much as 42.3 grams. The Apple Watch 10 weighs just 30 grams with an aluminum frame and 34.4 grams in the titanium version.

With these technical innovations, the Apple Watch 10

Not only the external distinguishing features distinguish the Apple Watch Series 9 and 10. There are also some technical differences. Based on these, you can find the right model and set up the smartwatch according to your ideas.

  • The Apple Watch Series 10 features a better refresh rate for the always-on display. The OLED manages to refresh the display once a second – its predecessors can only do it once a minute.
  • This is possible thanks to the new, more powerful chip – the S10 SiP. In addition, the chip enables faster response times when tapping.
  • The Apple Watch 10 can also measure water temperature and depth up to a limit of 6 meters. This is particularly interesting for you if, as an athlete, you not only swim but also want to dive with swimming goggles and a snorkel.
  • In terms of battery life, the Apple 10 is just as powerful as the Apple Watch 9 Series. Both models work up to 18 hours at a time. In power-saving mode, the watches last for around 36 hours before a charge is required.
  • However, charging the new Apple Watch is much faster than with its predecessor, thanks to the modern charging coil. The Watch 9 takes 45 minutes longer than the new Watch 10 and reaches a battery level of around 80 percent after just 30 minutes.
  • The speaker in the Apple Watch 10 is up to 30 percent smaller than in the Watch 9, but offers excellent quality. In addition, music and podcasts can be played, which was not yet possible with previous generations.
  • It is also possible to make phone calls with the Apple 10 without any problems. The manufacturer has installed a better microphone that even offers voice isolation, which simplifies communication.
  • In addition, the Apple 10 has a more advantageous sleep analysis. Using sensors, the watch detects whether your breathing stops during sleep and provides relevant information the next morning.
  • The fitness tracking functions have also been optimized for the Apple Watch 10. Your watch now automatically detects whether you are physically active and records the results. If you want to go hiking, you can also use offline maps on the smartwatch.
